Porridge and berries(Rex)

Wholegrains and oats help prevent osteoporosis which can lead to you walking with a stoop as you get older. They also lower cholesterol and are good for your guts. Many recent studies have linked oats to a slowing down of the ageing process.
 Porridge is a great way to kick-start your day, but not particularly exciting. Instead, next time you are using breadcrumbs to coat fishcakes, fish, pork or chicken for frying mix some oats into the crumb mixture and serve with a lemon for squeezing over.

Raspberries amongst other berries such as blackcurrants, cranberries and blueberries all help keep your skin supple and smooth by aiding in the production of collagen - a protein your skin requires for its health.
 The dark berries also help reduce sunburn which ages your skin and protect it against UV damage. Raspberries are a brilliant replacement for strawberries in traditional Eton Mess, lending a fruity tang to what can be an overly rich pudding.

Love apples - aka tomatoes - are a rich source of lycopene which actually becomes more active through the cooking process and is better absorbed when in paste form - ie ketchup. Strange, but true.
 Lycopene keeps your arteries young, so although it might not show on the outside, you'll be physically in better shape for the occasional splodge.
 Try a warming roasted tomato soup - roast halved tomatoes with a little sliver of garlic on each, some olive oil and a sprinkle of fresh thyme until soft. Blitz, season and serve.

These omega-3 rich fish are a must to add to your diet. Cheap, versatile and sustainable, they are a great source of this essential fatty acid which helps reduce skin dryness and improves elasticity which can fend off the onset of wrinkles.

 Try mixing flaked smoked mackerel with quinoa, avocado, celery, pumpkin seeds and lemon juice and olive oil for an omega-3 rich dinner.

A member of the all-powerful brassica family along with kale, cauliflower and a host of other vegetables including the unlikely horseradish, broccoli is high in anti-oxidants as well as betacarotene that helps in the ongoing battle against cancer.
 A rich source of fibre means that broccoli is great for keeping you young on the inside as well as out, cleansing your bowels. Broccoli is also rich in folate which helps create new cells in the body.
 Make a simple side dish as a great accompaniment to lamb or beef - steam broccoli until nearly cooked then stir fry quickly in hot oil with garlic and chilli. A squeeze of lemon juice and you're good to go.
