Boris Johnson was “pretty much” humiliated in cabinet today for publicly demanding an extra £100 million a week for the NHS, cabinet colleagues said.
Theresa May and a “large number” of cabinet ministers reprimanded the foreign secretary over briefings that he would call for the “Brexit dividend” — the cash currently used to pay EU contributions — to be spent on the health service.
Mrs May began an hour-long cabinet session on the NHS by declaring that the service would be among the priorities for additional cash post-Brexit, prompting some of Mr Johnson’s allies to suggest they had won the substantive argument.
However Mr Johnson was forced to wait until more than halfway through the session before intervening, and No 10 said that no minister…
