Re: In 1961, Hugh Dowding warned that the EU would succeed where Hitler didn't...

Thank you so much for your insights Edward - they are really interesting.  (See below)

I have just posted this in FB (Face Book) re our entry to the EU (then EEC) and the illegality of that under our constitutional law:

"THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS, TREASONOUS, AND SHOULD BE INCENDIARY

"A SECRET document prepared for pro-Europe Tory Prime Minster EDWARD HEATH shows how the FOREIGN OFFICE KNEW EU MEMBERSHIP WOULD DISMANTLE BRITAIN AS A SOVEREIGN NATION."
Let's be clear, DISMANTLING BRITAIN AS A SOVEREIGN NATION WAS, AND REMAINS, ILLEGAL UNDER OUR CONSTITUTIONAL LAW. OUR PARLIAMENTARY REPRESENTATIVES SWEAR ALLEGIANCE TO THE CROWN - NOT THE EU - AND IT IS ILLEGAL FOR THEM TO ACCEPT ALLEGIANCE TO ANY OTHER ENTITY. OR TO VOTE TO CEDE ANY CONTROL OF OUR LAWS OR BORDERS TO ANY OTHER ENTITY, EITHER PERMANENTLY OR TEMPORARILY. THE MONARCH IN TURN SWEARS ALLEGIANCE TO THE PEOPLE IN THEIR CORONATION OATH, BECAUSE THE NATION BELONGS, IN PERPETUITY, TO ITS PEOPLE. AND, TO BE CRYSTAL CLEAR, CONSTITUTIONAL LAW FORBIDS THE CEDING OF ALLEGIANCE, AND OF THE CONTROL OF OUR LAWS AND BORDERS, TO ANY OUTSIDE ENTITY EVEN IF THERE WERE, AT A SPECIFIC TIME, A MAJORITY VOTE IN THE COUNTRY IN ITS FAVOUR - BECAUSE ALLEGIANCE TO THE CROWN AND THE PEOPLE, AND BRITAIN'S NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY, PERTAINS, IN PERPETUITY, UNDER CONSTITUTIONAL LAW.
So what was done when we joined the EEC, and were subsequently, incrementally, inexorably wrapped and stifled in the killer web of the EU was a conscious, covert, act of illegality, an act, indeed, of TREASON. In reality, Britain has never been a member of the EU - it never could be - but has been forced to bow to the EU's totalitarian control as if it were. And, having realised at last what has been done to us, we are now being punished by the arrogant, megalomaniac EU elite for attempting to restore the reality of the sovereignty that was, in truth, always our birthright.
Here are an illuminating film and video setting out the story of the illegal ceding of our sovereignty.
"In line after line, the FACELESS WHITEHALL MANDARINS behind the astonishing briefing paper FCO 30/1048 ACTIVELY WELCOME BRITAIN'S DECLINE and Europe’s predominance. The briefing paper acknowledges that Britain would in time become LITTLE MORE THAN A PUPPET STATE OF BRUSSELS, AFTER CEDING JUDICIAL AND EXECUTIVE POWERS to the fledgling EU – then called the EEC.
But, instead of sounding alarm bells, the AUTHORS OF THE PAPER WARN MINISTERS TO HIDE THE TRUTH FROM THE BRITISH PUBLIC....DAMNINGLY for Tory Prime Minister Edward Heath, and all those who kept quiet about the findings in the early 70s, the document, known as FCO30/1048, was locked away under OFFICIAL SECRETS ACT FOR ALMOST FIVE DECADES. The classified paper, dated April 1971, even suggested the GOVERNMENT SHOULD KEEP THE BRITISH PUBLIC IN THE DARK ABOUT WHAT EEC MEMBERSHIP MEANS - PREDICTING THAT IT WOULD TAKE 30 YEARS FOR VOTERS TO REALISE WHAT WAS HAPPENING - BY WHICH TIME IT WOULD BE TOO LATE TO LEAVE. Bizarrely FCO 30/1048 READS MORE LIKE AN EDUCATED ANARCHISTS' GUIDE TO CRUSHING BRITAIN'S POLITICAL STANDING ON THE WORLD STAGE than the sober briefing of civil service pillars of the British establishment."

A SECRET document prepared for pro-Europe Tory Prime Minster Edward Heath shows how the Foreign Office knew EU membership would dismantle Britain as a sovereign nation.

I have often puzzled at the summary dismissal of Hugh Dowding after his successful conduct of the Battle of Britain. He was, as his nickname suggests, an aloof character, unclubbable and unlikely to be swept along with the fads of fashionable groupthink and that may have isolated him.

It was this aspect of his character which probably saved the day for us. During the battle of France, he was under enormous political pressure to send all available squadrons into the fight. He refused - even to the point of insubordination- as he judged they would be needed here later. I sometimes wondered whether his dismissal was delayed payback from the Jobsworths for that act of inspired disobedience.
He was a religious man but not in a conventionally orthodox Christian way. I had a slim book of his, published in wartime, called  " Twelve Squadrons of Angels". I lent it to a friend who had served in the wartime RAF but when he died, the book could not be found- I guess he had lent it to another RAF pal.

The EU will, of course, " like Earth's proud empires pass away" eventually but I would not
hazard a guess as to timing. If the Club Med countries could get out of the euro debt currency trap, that would relieve a great deal of pressure. The easiest way would be for Germany to leave the euro - which was the foundational policy of the AfD party!
The Visegrad countries with their historical memory of Muslim invasion and occupation are unlikely ever to consent to their demographic invasion etc . But there will be considerable parts of the EU project which there would be no reason to abolish. EU countries which sell the majority of their exports to other EU countries would have no reason to want the abolition of the internal market and so on.

It is in any event highly desirable that the process should be orderly. A continent in chaos where the money has gone funny could hardly leave us unaffected. Just such preconditions led to WWll and we couldn't sit that one out!

I suppose we must be careful what we wish for, a disorderly collapse of the EU could have grim consequences.

One country leaving at a time would be good...

Britain in March, Italy in April, Greece in May, Spain in June...that would be nice!

how right he was! As with all empires even the EU will fall. It will be unexpected, just like the fall of communism. But the ex communist countries had the west to help them out, who do we have now? Qataris, Saudis, Chinese.... The West has gone totally mad! We need Count Sobieski
