Congress Demands Answers From Google Over Nest .

The Google-owned smart home company Nest has been getting it in the neck over the last week or so, over its lack of disclosure about a microphone that exists inside its Nest Security system, which wasn’t listed among the device's specs.

And now Congress is getting involved - by way of a letter from the Senate Commerce Committee to Google's CEO Sundar Pichai.

The letter - which asks six questions - essentially seeks to uncover whether or not the microphone may ever have been accessed by a third party. That's what one of the questions asks specifically when it says:

Is Google aware or has Google ever been aware of any third party using the Nest Secure microphone for any unauthorized purpose?

There's nothing to suggest that the Nest Secure's microphone has ever been hacked but, given that users didn't even know that it existed until a week ago - there's obviously some concern amongst the Nest user community.
