The European Commission announced it is approving EUR ten million in assistance to Macedonia, to better handle the flow of refugees that are pouring in through Greece.

The assistance is being provided to improve border management, and will not go toward building fences or closing the Macedonian-Greek border.

The announcement comes a day before the Visegrad Group summit in Prague.

Greece was given several months to show it can improve its control over the borders, particularly its vast sea border with Turkey, which is used by refugees and migrants who continuously arrive with small boats at some of the Greek islands.
EU countries are discussing ejecting Greece from the Schengen Agreement if the situation does not improve, or suspending the agreement for two years.

"Being Macedonia's friend, Russia is concerned over the attempts for destabilization of the country, because this is not in the interest of its citizens, the region and the entire world", said Shcherbak.

He also voiced disagreement with a recent statement by United States Secretary of State John Kerry that Macedonia is in the line of fire between the East and the West.
"We fully reject this confrontation logic. We urge for development of cooperation, mutually beneficial relations based on equality. Russia has promoted the enhancement of bilateral relations with Macedonia for the past two decades in the fields of economy, culture and politics", added Shcherbak.
